참새체는 정해진 모듈 안에서 연필과 마카 등으로 직접 손으로 써보고, 디지털로 옮겨 만든 작업이다. 모듈에서 그린 형태를 최대한 유지하며 디자인 했다. 로마자 디자인 때와 마찬가지로 세리프를 좋아하는 성격이 나타나고 기울기 또한 심했다. 국문 서체 디자인에서는 스케치의 그 세리프가 마치 참새의 머리 같고, 세리프가 바라보는 시점은 마치 참새가 지저기는 소리가 들려오는 것 같아 이름을 짓게 되었다. 스케치 단계까지만 해도 탈네모꼴이었으나 욕심이 생겨 벌수를 늘리고 (최종 17벌), 네모꼴에 가까운 서체를 완성하게 되었다. ‘조류’를 무서워하는 내가 서체 디자인을 하며 새를 관찰하게 되는 등 도전적인 작업이었다.
